The compact and easy to use DCR-SR300 camera records standard definition (720 x 480) MPEG2* video directly to an internal hard drive. Using a computer and USB2 connection, footage can be transfered relatively quickly from the internal hard drive to DVD (Windows only, using the included software) or a computer drive.
Mann has two of these camcorders. The maximum loan period (including renewals) for this equipment is 4 days. Availability can be checked and reservations made from the equipment page. Here is what comes with this camera when you check it out:
Overdue fines are 4 cents per minute (applies to each of the above). As with any materials that are checked out of the library, the user assumes full responsibility for returning this equipment with all its components on time and undamaged. Please be especially careful in avoiding dropping or bumping the camera, especially while recording, because of the internal hard drive.

*Special Info Regarding MPEG2 Format
The DCR-SR300 camera records video in MPEG2-PS (Program Stream) format, multiplexed with AC3 audio. In Mann Library, the Dell Research computers as well as Classroom machines can play these files using Windows Media Player or RealPlayer. The CIT computers also can play the files, using VLC (from the Start > Class Files > VideoLAN menu). The included Picture Motion Browser software (Windows only) allows transfer, basic trimming and combining of the mpg clips before export to DVD.
If you wish to view the .mpg files on other computers, or want to do any editing, special arrangements may need to be made, including the installation of codecs or software, and file conversion. Please read the Play/Transfer/Edit quick guide for more info, including use with Mac computers.
