Floor Plans & Stacks Maps

The renovation of the original Mann Library building is almost complete. See the Mann Library Renovation site for more info. Mann Library's collection and staff are now located throughout the renovated original Mann building and the library's addition.

Use the quick links above or headings below to find floor plans and stacks maps for each floor. A description of services, offices and collections available on the first, second, third and fourth floors is listed below. Public restrooms are located on each floor and shown on the floor plans.

Our collection is organized according to the Library of Congress call number system. See Understanding LC Call Numbers for more information about reading call numbers. The stacks maps indicate where each call number range is located.

Basement

Library Technical Services at Mann are located on the basement level of Mann Library. Library Technical Services helps to build and provide access to Cornell University Library's collections through acquiring, licensing and processing library materials in all formats and providing the organization, records and metadata for their easier retrieval and access. Special Collections and Preservation are also located there.

Special Collections

A collection of rare or fragile books and journals, items in the special collection area do not circulate and can only be viewed with assistance from the staff. For information on how to view a special collection item, please refer to the special collections policy page.

First Floor

Circulation (Access Services) and Reference (Public Services) can be found on the first floor. Offices for Collections and Services staff are on the first floor. The Stone Computer Computing Center is also located there, where a variety of general research and specialized computers and peripherals can be accessed. The Technical Help desk can provide support for computing center users. Public computer e-mail kiosks are available there as well. The Mann Library Seminar (100) and Conference (102) rooms are located just off the front lobby. Manndible Cafe can also be accessed from the lobby.

The following collections are located on the first floor of Mann library. See the stacks map for exact location of each area.

Current Periodicals

This section contains the most recent issues only (unbound) of a select group of heavily used periodical titles. Not all current periodicals are in this section. To verify if a current issue of a journal is in the Current Periodicals Section, use the on-line catalog to view the item record. The notes field will indicate if the recent issues are shelved in this section. Journals in this section are limited to a two hour loan with no renewals. 

New Book Shelf

This shelf features a rotating selection of recent acquisitions. It is strictly a browsing collection for three weeks. Patrons who wish to charge out a New Book Shelf item may place a recall on the item. Questions about the New Book Shelf may be directed to the Circulation Desk. Reference Collection

The Reference Collection is a non-circulating part of our collection; it includes encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, atlases, phone books, indexes, and census bureau reports among other resources that are primarily used by the Reference staff. Questions regarding any items in the Reference and Indexes collections may be addressed to our Reference Desk.

Topographical Maps

This collection of topographical quadrangle maps covers all of New York State. The maps are arranged alphabetically by County. They can be used in house or may be checked out for a loan period of one week. Check out of topographical maps is handled by the Circulation Desk. Any questions about these maps may be directed to the Circulation or Reference Desk.

Microfilm/Microfiche Collection

The collection of microfiche and film includes ASAE (American Society of Agricultural Engineers), FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization), ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center), other government documents, older journals and newspapers, and older theses. Both micro-forms can be viewed at microfiche/film reader printers which are located to the left of the Stone Computing Center Desk. Microfiche and film may be used in house or checked out for one week should you wish to use a fiche/film reader at another library. Questions related to the micro-forms may be directed to the Circulation or Reference Desk. Workers at the Stone Computing Center Desk can assist with questions about use of the microfilm/fiche readers and printers.

*Special Note: During the completion phase of the Mann Library renovation project some shifting of materials and office spaces is occuring. Microfilm and fiche will be housed at the Library Annex.  Up to 50 pages of fiche can be scanned and sent electronically for free via MyDD. Beyond that limit, the entire fiche can be requested and sent to the patron's library of choice via library to library delivery.

Second Floor

Offices for Administration, ITS and various special projects are located on the second floor. Limited study areas and rooms (keys must be checked out at the circulation desk on first floor) are also available. Large multi-purpose gathering areas, including the Dean's Room, Gallery, and Collaborative Center are also located there.

Edith A. Ellis Collection

This collection is a circulating set of non academic books intended to provide pleasure reading to the patrons of Mann Library. Established in 1949 from an endowment given to Mann Library by the family of Edith A. Ellis, these books form an eclectic and interesting selection to browse and enjoy.

Thesis Section

The thesis section contains PhD, Masters and Undergraduate Honors Theses dating from 1981 to current year. Theses circulate as regular books.

Third Floor

Open study areas, including tables and chairs, are located throughout the third floor. Individual and group study rooms are also available (keys must be checked out at the circulation desk on first floor). One of the group rooms has a projector and can be reserved in advance at the circulation desk. There is a bird watching area, with binoculars and bird identification books, in the north corner of the floor facing Beebe Lake.

Curriculum Collection

This is a subset collection of books, handbooks, and resources related to education and teaching curriculum. Items in this section circulate as regular books.

Oversized

Oversized items are larger than normal books that do not fit on standard shelving units. They are housed in a separate section of shelving. The call number range within the oversized section matches the call numbers for that floor.

Fourth Floor

Open study areas, including tables and chairs, are located throughout the fourth floor. Individual and group study rooms are also available (keys must be checked out at the circulation desk on first floor).
