Special Collections Access
Rare or fragile materials are kept under restricted access at Mann Library. To view these items [referred to as Mann Library Special Collections (Non-Circulating) in the Cornell Library catalog, patrons should come to the Circulation Desk (map it) They will be asked to fill out a registration form and an item request slip.
Policies for Viewing Mann Library Special Collections Material
- Items may only be requested between 8:30am and 3:30pm Monday – Friday.
- Viewing of materials must be done in the Access Services office, under the supervision of a staff member.
- Only two special collection items will be made available at one time.
- In the event that a photocopy of a special collections item is needed, Collections staff will assist. The preferred method of making copies is to use the digital camera. The cost for these photos or scans is $2/image. Burning these images to a CD is an extra $1 on average. In cases where the item is in good condition, Collection staff can make photocopies on behalf of the patron. The cost of photocopies is $.35/page.*
- We cannot guarantee that scans or photocopies will be made immediately upon request. Patrons may be asked to return to Mann at a later point to pick up copies.
*Please note that required staff time and overall condition of an item can have an effect on the price of scans and copies.
